Dr. Shuanping Ren is a hi-tech industry expert at SAP. He is responsible for industry trend analysis and large deal support. Before joining SAP, he worked for China HP, IBM, and Lenovo as a senior project manager, He has led several multinational, cross-cultural SAP project implementations. His research areas include business strategy, digital transformation, project management, the Internet of things, machine learning, block chain, and AI.
Strategic project management was examined using case studies to determine the optimal focus for successful business results. Sharpening and expanding Aaron Shenhar’s trademarked theory Strategy Project Management (SPL), this research proposes a new model called the Pentagram Diagram that merges strategic project management and traditional project management together in one framework. Strategic project management focuses on competitive advantage, and the traditional iron triangle model encompasses project scope, schedule, budget, and customer satisfaction. For sustainable company development, all of these factors must be recognized. The cases used in this study to support this thesis are IBM’s Blue Harmony Project, Lenovo’s moved IBM PC division information system to Lenovo’s platform, the Huawei’s IPD project, Company M’s HR Appraisal Application Developing and Implementation project, and Motorola’s Iridium project.
