Individual Participation in Organizational Virtual Communities and Job Performance

Dr. Saleh Badhafari is a positive, proactive, and dynamic professional, who has combined strong business and financial acumen with 28 years of experience in HR Management, where he has managed the complete life cycle of HR projects. He is interested in creating knowledge at the organizational level, which led him to study the impact of communication and work behaviors on individuals’ performances. His educational background includes an MBA with honors from NYIT and a DBA from Grenoble Ecole de Management.

This research will examine the capacity of organizational virtual communities to improve job performance. The study will review the concepts of networks and virtual communities, as well as the variables influencing job performance within an organization. This will involve reviewing and measuring the relationships among five variables: (1) Employee participation in organization’s virtual community, (2) Work engagement, (3) Knowledge sharing, (4) Organizational citizenship behavior, and (5) Employee job performance. The research will review the impact of the employee participation in the organizational virtual community on job performance, and the positive impact of three work behaviors—work engagement, knowledge sharing, and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB)—on mediating the relationship between employee participation and job performance will be assessed. This study will contribute to a field of research that is currently limited, especially in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). An understanding of the relationships among these five variables will help create an interactive virtual community that provides opportunities for individuals and organizations to communicate and exchange knowledge for performance improvement. This could revolutionize organizational virtual communities in the UAE and may contribute to a more positive work environment that supports the exchange of resources and knowledge for collective understanding, cooperation, and transparency. Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Limited (GASCO) is one of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Group Companies used in this regard for this empirical research. It is used because it is one of the first companies to use networks and virtual communities to enhance communication and promote innovation among the enterprise employees.
